LKTYP programmes offer children and their caregivers access to the performing arts, regardless of financial their resources. We provide opportunities to participate and learn through the arts. LKTYP offers some of the province's most comprehensive arts educational programming for students. We also provide much-needed professional development opportunities for Ontario teachers and community arts educators.
Play Development
LKTYP's commitment to child development manifests itself in the creation of plays that address particular developmental issues in the contemporary lives of children, giving a voice to their dreams, fears, hopes and imaginations. LKTYP is committed to diversity, seeking out new work and writers from a wide range of communities whose stories reflect the diverse lives of the audience LKTYP serves.
Arts Education and Professional Development for Teachers
LKTYP offers plays designed to be fully-integrated with the Ontario school curriculum. Teachers are provided with in-class, curriculum-based lessons to maximize the performance experience for students. Training is also provided for teachers on how to use the theatre as a support for their arts curriculum.
Connections: Addressing the Pattern of Poverty
Through the provision of subsidized tickets, this program addresses both the issue of poverty among students and the severe cutbacks for arts education in Ontario schools. Thanks to the lead support of CIBC World Markets Children's Foundation, this programme provides teachers with comprehensive materials that link the theatre experience with classroom learning.
Arts Impact: Making a Difference in the Lives of Inner City Students
This program provides the most disadvantaged students with a higher level of arts education through a series of workshops and in-class activities. The purpose of the Arts Impact program is to deepen students' relationship and understanding of theatre, allowing them to be inspired by the material presented on stage and to help them think in ways that will challenge their own perceptions.
Drama School
LKTYP operates a year-round drama school for children aged 4-18. The school is based on a student-centred philosophy, with a clear intent to have young people feel good about themselves, learn skills, make friends, have fun and gain a sense of accomplishment through the theatrical process.
